In 2008 we were named one of Gary Rhodes’ top 5 Scottish Local Food Heroes and we prepared
our Local Platter for Gary to sample on UK TV Food.
We are the Kennel Club’s
Dog Friendliest Eating Place in Britain for our support of their Open For Dogs campaign to encourage more places to allow
dogs (NB it is legal for dogs to be in cafes – it is only illegal if the dogs enter a food preparation area. Please
pass this fact on).
We use only the finest quality ingredients and products, most of which are prize winning. Jan or Chris will
be only too happy to tell you all about them.
All our soups, dressings and mayonnaise are made on the premises using fresh
ingredients.
Our soups are usually vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and dairy free, but please check when ordering and we will be happy
to confirm ingredients for you.
We can usually offer gluten/wheat
free bread, pasta & cakes. Please ask when ordering.
We understand vegetarians
and vegans and will try and work through menu options for intolerances – please ask for options and assistance.
We support the use of fair trade coffee, sugars
and organic products.
We are child friendly and provide healthy
options & books/crayons for kids.
café
cree is on one level and we provide a disabled toilet.
We welcome well behaved
dogs on leads (they are on holiday too!) We
are walker and cyclist friendly (even muddy ones!!) We can offer secure cycle storage to the rear of the café.

In 2005, Jan and Chris
Cole decided to indulge their joint passion for good food and Jan's love of challenges and meeting people. Armed with
Food Hygeine certificates and Chris' wonderful ability in the kitchen they decided on a complete lifestyle change
and moved from Manchester to Galloway. They now live in a 250-year-old listed house by the seaside and purchased what was Café
Crafts in April 2006.
Jan and Chris opened
the doors of café cree on May 22nd, 2006, having never even operated a till before, let alone run
a café.
Every table was filled and, says Jan: "We were straight out of our depths! We smile when we look
back at our complete lack of experience and have constantly reviewed and changed things as we have grown in experience and
confidence."
"We broadened our menu and were delighted as all our changes were met with approval."
Here are some
photos of our journey...

Why is local important?. This reduces the miles your food travels and supports local businesses.
We are not on commission, so please don’t offend staff by assuming that – we encourage you to
try the wonderful produce we work so hard to source. By sourcing locally, we are told that up to 70% of the money that goes
through our till stays in the area and supports the local economy by keeping people in work, our shops open and services (like
buses) running.

Please take some
time to look at the products and pictures on sale in the café. We choose the cards to make you and us smile!
